Microsoft Cuts 1,900 Jobs in Gaming Industry Shake-Up
Microsoft is laying off 1,900 employees from its video game workforce, which includes 1,900 roles out of the 22,000 people on the team. The layoffs were made as part of a broader effort to align strategies and costs across the growing business. The affected employees have contributed significantly to the success of Activision Blizzard, ZeniMax, and the Xbox teams. Microsoft will provide full support to those who are impacted during the transition, including severance benefits informed by local employment laws. Additionally, Blizzard Entertainment President Mike Ybarra is leaving the company, and Allen Adham, Blizzard's chief design officer, is also leaving the company. The layoffs are happening after the $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard and $7.5 billion acquisition of Zenimax in 2021.
