Intel's Lunar Lake CPUs to Use Samsung's High-Speed LPDDR5X On-Package Memory

Intel is reportedly set to utilize Samsung's LPDDR5X on-package memory in its forthcoming Lunar Lake-MX mobile CPUs. This collaboration represents a significant achievement for both companies, as it has the potential to make a substantial impact in the PC market. By incorporating on-package memory, Intel's Lunar Lake CPUs are expected to experience performance efficiency gains, making them an appealing choice for the laptop sector. According to sources, the Lunar Lake CPUs will offer up to 16GB or 32GB of on-package memory configurations. The decision to collaborate with Samsung may be attributed to the latter's reputation for producing high-quality memory products, particularly the LPDDR5X variety. The Lunar Lake platform is designed to consume less power and boast smaller die sizes compared to conventional CPUs. Additionally, the platform will consist of a CPU + GPU chiplet, a system-on-chip tile, and two memory packages. The CPU chiplet is expected to integrate up to eight general-purpose cores, 12MB cache, up to eight Xe2 GPU clusters, and up to a six-tile NPU 4.
