Hackers Target Unsecured Linux SSH Servers for Cryptocurrency Mining: A Growing Threat?
There is increasing threat of cyberattacks on Linux SSH servers, particularly those that are poorly secured. Cybercriminals are exploiting vulnerabilities in these servers to carry out cryptocurrency mining and distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. Threat actors use brute-force attempts to guess SSH credentials and install malware, including scanners, to identify other vulnerable systems on the internet. The malware installed includes tools that can determine the number of CPU cores on a system. The findings highlight the importance of using strong, regularly changed passwords, keeping systems up-to-date, and exercising caution when updating security versions to mitigate the risks associated with these attacks.
