Apple's Shocking Move Leaves Fans Disappointed: No iPad Upgrade in 2023
In 2023, Apple did not release any new iPads, marking the first time since the product line's inception that no new iPads were launched in a full calendar year. This hiatus in new iPad releases may indicate a reevaluation of the device's strategy. Despite this, Apple did release the Apple Pencil with USB-C in 2023. In Q4 2023, iPad revenue declined by 10% due to a lack of new upgrades. However, Apple has planned several new iPad Pro and iPad Air models for 2024, which could give the company a boost. These new models are expected to feature the new A17 Pro chip based on TSMC's 3nm architecture and improved Vision Pro 2 displays. Additionally, Apple discontinued several devices in 2023, including iPhones, Macs, AirPods, and accessories. The iPad mini has not received an update since 2021 and is considered overdue for a refresh, while the AirPods Max have been largely ignored since their release in 2020 and are in need of a total rethink. The Magic Mouse also lacks Force Touch functionality, and the Pro Display XDR has not received an update since 2019. Reports suggest a soft reboot of the iPad line could happen as early as next year, possibly with an OLED model for iPad Pro fans. iPadOS 17 continues to offer new features such as Lock Screen widgets, interactive Notes app PDFs, and the Health app on the iPad. Finally, Final Cut and Logic have finally arrived on iPad for the first time, offering a movie production experience.
