Apple CarPlay Takes Over Cars in 2024: A Whole-Car Integration Revolution

Apple CarPlay will integrate with vehicles starting in 2024, with Aston Martin and Porsche being among the first brands to offer this integration. This integration will allow for a privacy-friendly way for iPhone users to access their vehicle's sensor suite on the infotainment screen. The new CarPlay integration will display vehicle vitals such as speedo, tach, fuel level gauge, and coolant temperature. Aston Martin and Porsche have released renderings of how this integration will look in their vehicles, with Aston Martin's rendering looking like a regular manufacturer setup running CarPlay and Porsche's rendering hinting at greater widget integration. Next-generation CarPlay will provide deeper integration with the instrument cluster and climate controls, offering support for multiple displays across the dashboard, including customizable gauge cluster designs and layouts. Widgets will be available on the central screen and instrument cluster, providing at-a-glance information such as trip duration, fuel economy, distance traveled, calendar events, weather, phone calls, and more. The new CarPlay interface can be tailored to each specific vehicle model and automaker's brand identity.
