Unlocking New Brain Research Potential: Scientists Create VR Goggles for Mice
Researchers at Northwestern University have developed a custom-built virtual reality (VR) setup for mice, known as "Miniature Rodent Stereo Illumination VR" or iMRSIV. The system includes tiny VR goggles that fit over a mouse's face and most of its body, allowing for simulated overhead threats and mapping of brain activity. In tests, the mice appeared to take to the new VR environment more quickly than with previous setups. The researchers recorded both the mice's physical responses and neural activity and plan to flip the scenario and let the mice act as predators in the future. The study was published in the journal Neuron on Friday.
