The Day Before Controversy: Former Employee Speaks Out, Developer Insists Closure
The developer of the video game "The Day Before" has announced that it is shutting down after facing backlash for failing to deliver a game as promised. The game was initially marketed as a massively multiplayer online (MMO) game, but it was actually designed as a third-person shooter with cooperative mechanics. Despite this, there were no RPG mechanics implemented in the game, and it was intended for small server sizes rather than large communities. The developers had limited input in the game's design and direction, with the founders making all major decisions. Many good ideas were rejected by the founders, resulting in wasted time and resources. Employees who disagreed with the founders faced termination of employment. The game sold around 200,000 copies and received around 90,000 refunds. The developer, Fntastic, removed the purchase button on the game's Steam page and wiped its presence from the internet amid refund chaos. Some players noticed that the name of the developer's previous game, "The Wild Eight," was changed from Fntastic to Eight Points on Steam, leading to speculation that Fntastic was attempting to leave its tarnished reputation behind. The publisher of "The Wild Eight," Hype Train Digital, insisted that the name change was made due to a deluge of negative reviews received following "The Day Before's release.
